Race Report: Aiken-Augusta Masters Regatta

A small group competed at the Aiken-Augusta Masters Regatta this past Saturday in Aiken, South Carolina. Despite having only seven athletes, RRC fielded rowers in seven different events. Dave and Nathan were able to put together a winning men's composite quad with Atlanta, and Dave gamely jumped into a last-minute men's composite eight organized by Augusta... and won! Best of all, everyone came home with hardware!

Special congratulations to Carrie G and Kerry L, who competed in their first sprint race, finishing third in the women's 4x. Thanks also to Doug, Carson, and Nathan for loaning us their car-topping equipment for the weekend.

Here are the final results of the events that RRC members competed in. You'll see that we got hit by the age handicapping system a few times, so we've either got to get older or we've got to get faster!

  • Mens 1x: Nathan (2nd), Joe (3rd, by 0.2 seconds)

Racing Update: Dogwood Regatta (bling!)

RRC had a successful Sunday at the Dogwood regatta. After a stormy Saturday, the bad weather moved out in time for Sunday's races. The day started out overcast but then the sun came out (and unfortunately the wind picked up). Overall a great day to be outside.

Many of our boats placed and lots of medals were won. Here is a summary:

  • Women's Masters A/B 4x: 2nd Place (A Boat), 4th place (B Boat)
  • Women's Masters A/B 4+: 3rd Place
  • Mixed Masters A 2x: 2nd Place (B Boat), 4th place (A boat) (Joe & Alexa's advanced age gave them a handicap boost over Nathan & Maria's faster time)
  • Mixed Master's 4x: 2nd Place

Thanks to the RRC membership and to TRC for all of the support and help with this regatta. This was a great way to kick off the 2010 regatta season!

Look for info soon for the next regatta (Aiken-Augusta Masters Regatta, May 15)...
